Massimiano Bucchi

Professor of Science and Technology in Society at the University of Trento

Massimiano Bucchi is a professor of Science and Technology in Society and Director of the Master SCICOMM at University of Trento. He has served as a visiting professor across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, reflecting broad international academic engagement and collaboration.

He is the author of several books published in more than 20 countries, along with peer-reviewed articles in leading scientific journals including Nature, Science, and PLOS. His English-language books include Science and the Media (1998) and Science in Society (2004), both published by Routledge, Beyond Technocracy (2009) by Springer, Newton’s Chicken (2020) by World Scientific, and the Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (3rd edition, 2021), co-edited with B. Trench and published by Routledge.

From 2016 to 2019, he served as editor-in-chief of the international journal Public Understanding of Science, one of the leading journals in the field of science communication. In 2025, two new books will be released: Science Communication – The Basics (with B. Trench), published by Routledge, and Geniuses, Heroes and Saints: The Nobel Prize and the Public Image of Science, published by MIT Press.
