Legacy Sessions of Mohammed Yahia and Ahmed Al-Attar

Honoring the Icons of Science and Environmental Journalism: Mohammed Yahia and Ahmed Al-Attar

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to two prominent figures in the field of science and environmental journalism in the Arab world: Mohammed Yahia, a vibrant figure in the realm of science journalism and one of our dedicated supporters for the Arab Forum of Science Media and Communication, and Ahmed Al-Attar, one of the most influential environmental journalists in the region. Their professional journeys were marked by unparalleled passion and dedication, each leaving behind a rich legacy of creativity and influence.

Mohammed Yahia’s legacy shines with an extraordinary blend of commitment and distinction. Just days before his departure, he assumed the helm as editor-in-chief of the magazine of the American Chemical Society, Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), a testament to his pursuit of excellence. His remarkable journey included a myriad of roles, including Regional Editor for the Middle East and North Africa at SciDev.Net, Executive Editor at Springer Nature, President of the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ), and Vice President of the Arab Science Journalists Association.

As for Ahmed Al-Attar, his impact on environmental journalism is equally significant. Al-Attar was an investigative journalist and trainer, specializing in open-source investigations and environmental and climate issues. He was also the founder and editor-in-chief of the Ozone platform, focusing on climate change in the Middle East, and served as a consultant at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in Washington.

Throughout his remarkable journey, Al-Attar garnered numerous prestigious awards, including the ARIJ Award for Investigative Journalism in 2012, the German Siemens Award in 2016, and the Egyptian Journalism Awards in both 2015 and 2020.

To honor their legacy, we are making all of their captivating sessions from both the Arab Forum of Science Media and Communication and the Science Journalism Forum free and available to the public.
