Sam Nester

Artist-in-Residence at The Juilliard School, NYU Abu Dhabi

Sam Nester is an Australian-born trumpet player, composer, and sound artist based in New York. His work fuses environmental data, field recordings, and generative systems to create immersive sound and light installations, as well as musical compositions. He has collaborated with scientists and policymakers at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) and with biologists at New York University Abu Dhabi’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology.

His projects include Synocene, Anthos, Cistern, Transposon, and Plastic Record, which explore ecological interdependence through sonic ecologies. Sam teaches at The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
