Thawab Hilal is a Senior Scientist at the Department of Communication at the University of Salzburg. Before her current role, she worked for eight years within the United Nations system, including positions at UN Women and the United Nations World Food Programme, where she was engaged in program management, monitoring, and evaluation.
Her academic background includes an MSc in International Development from Wageningen University, an MA in Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) from the University of Salzburg, an MA in Comparative Cultural Studies from Université Jean Moulin Lyon III, a Diploma in Gender Studies from the University of Oslo, and a BA in Modern European Languages from the University of Jordan.
Her research focuses on the intersection of communication and international sustainable development, with particular attention to climate change communication in the Global South, youth activism, and the challenges of misinformation. She is a member of the Research Group on Justice and Inclusion for Vulnerable Groups at the University of Jordan.
